Gender and Affect Reading Group

Faculty and Grad Students: We invite you to join the GSWS Gender and Affect Reading Group this fall! Our first meeting will be on Thursday Sept. 18, from 4:00-5:30 in room 402, Cathedral of Learning. We'll discuss the introduction and chapters seven and eight of Ahmed, The Cultural Politics of Emotion. These are available in PDF on the GSWS portal (My Pitt, "resources"). 

Planning for fall programming on the theme "Embodiment" has begun.

"Teaching Times" Article by GSWS Faculty

First-year Student Academic Community

In fall term 2014, our Program will participate in an academic community for new students at Pitt intersted in gender/sexuality studies. Students will take our Intro to GSWS course (which fulfills social science gen ed), seminar in composition gender studies, and a one-credit freshman programs course designed for the community. All of these courses will be taught by experienced instructors whose work is related to gender studies. Other activities related to gender/sexuality are also on the horizon.

The Iris Marion Young Award: Call for Nominations

The Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies Program, with contributions from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and others across the University community, has created the Iris Marion Young Award for Political Engagement to honor those who work to promote justice in the University, at the local or national level, or across the globe.
