Sally Jo Snyder, Consumer Health Coalition

Sponsored by GSWS

From being referenced first as a disability instead of a person, members of the disabilities community are persons – sexual, physical, mental, spiritual, whole persons. Change in creating and maintaining a community fully accessible and available to all starts with an attitude change. This lecture and discussion will draw from experience and touch on previous and current media portrayals, anecdotes, and life in the beginning shift of cultural norms and understandings.

For the past twelve years, Reverend Sally Jo Snyder has worked in justice ministry settings as a community organizer on local, state, and national levels on issues which impact marginalized populations, children, the impoverished, members of the LGBTQ community, and people with disabilities. She serves on the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities and is chairperson of the Health Workgroup. Snyder is currently the Director of Advocacy and Consumer Engagement at the Consumer Health Coalition. She oversees the distribution of the “How to BE a Proactive Patient” guidebook and the Academy of Empowered Consumers which educates persons to ensure the integration of persons’ physical health care and mental health care and teaches persons to be involved and engaged in every medical appointment. Snyder is a published author and impassioned speaker and has done work in announcing and radio.
