Lecture: "From Fairytale Hip-Hop to Ferguson USA: A Canon of Prejudice"

March 25, 2015 - 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Speaker/Participants:
Jeffrey McCune, Associate Professor at Washington University

Sponsored by: GSWS, Humanities Center, Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, Africana Studies

This talk is from McCune's second project: Read!:An Experiment in Seeing Black is a book which provides a new lens to approach the study of race, gender, sexuality--mapping the work of canonical readings of blackness and their cultural consequences. READ! moves from hip-hop to neo-slave narratives to the black church, developing a rigorous method of reading texts and performances in ways that illuminate a hermeneutic of generosity.
