"Beyond the IRB: New Frontiers in the Ethics of Qualitative Research"

October 29, 2010 - 9:30am - 4:00pm

Hosted by the University of Pittsburgh Department of Sociology

The concerns that prompt this conference are those of vulnerability and risk that qualitative researchers create for those they study as well as issues of responsibility and accountability on the part of scholars. This conference will set an agenda for the qualitative research ethics that are deeper, tougher, and more politically edged, and more sociological than the issues generally handled by institutional review boards.

Presenters will include:

Kathleen Blee (University of Pittsburgh)

Ashley Currier (Texas A&M University)

Bernadette Barton (Morehead State University)

Verta Tailor (University of California, Santa Barbara)

Leila Rupp (University of California, Santa Barbara)

Gloria González-López (University of Texas at Austin)

Rachel Einwohner (Purdue University)
