ABOUT IRIS MARION YOUNG

Renowned philosopher and social and political theorist Iris Marion Young was a faculty member in Pitt’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs during the 1990s. She was a vital member of the Women’s Studies Program and the University community, and she was an activist for gender equity, labor rights, and other forms of social justice.

As a scholar, a teacher, and a citizen, she was inspirational. The Iris Marion Young Memorial Panel Discussion and Awards Ceremony celebrates her legacy by honoring members of the Pitt community who work to promote social justice and democracy.

Co-sponors of this event include: the Departments of Sociology and Political Science, the Provost’s Integrative Social Science Research Initiative, and the Office of Undergraduate Studies in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.
