New Huggies commercial creates controversy
Yet another example of how media imposes gender stereotypes on us, this time is that dads are clueless when it comes to caring for babies. Huggies recently released a new ad campaign “Dad Test” that promised that the diapers were durable and easy enough to use for clueless dads. It depicted several dads struggling to take care of their babies while women were away - a series of spots all filmed during five days spent in a house with real dads and their babies. "To prove that Huggies diapers and wipes can handle anything," the female voice-over explains, "we put them to the toughest test imaginable -- Dads."
After multiple complaints the ad champagne was pulled off the air and replaced by a more appropriate one. Unfortunately, I was not able to find the full original commercial, but the one below more or less covers it.
What do you think? Do you find the original ad offensive? Do you see any other examples of the same stereotype?
