Anea
The director of “Two and Half Men”, Jamie Widdoes, and Anea Bogue have teamed up to begin a talk show that will be directed towards struggles that women and girls face and possible solutions for them. The theme of the show is to discuss issues that the female gender faces and to provide plausible outcomes. Anea Bogue, as stated on her website, is a “certified life coach and consultant, writer and nationally recognized self-esteem expert who works with adolescent girls and women of all ages.” She is looking to expand that résumé by adding on “talk show host”. Her show is very Oprah-esque and utilizes audience input as well as interviews.
In January I attended the filming of the pilot for this new talk show Anea. On my venture to the WQED studio I had no idea what to expect. However after just a few minutes of sitting in the audience I came to realize what kind of effect this show could have on millions of women and adolescent girls. One of the topics that Anea brushed on in her show was the two-sided-ness of families that have male and female children. In her example she talked about the different ways the dad handled his teenagers leaving the house on a Friday night. When the son came down the stairs and said he was going out, the dad jokingly asked if he had a condom and told him to “get some” as long as he was being safe. No questions were asked of where he was going or when he would be back. When the daughter (who is older than the son) came down the stairs, however, the dad bombarded her with questions such as “Where are you going?” “Will there be boys there?” “Who are you going with?” “When will you be home?” and other questions of the sort.
How can the parents see this as fair for their daughter?
I understand the world can be a scary place for young girls out on their own, but going as far as to tell the son that he can pretty much do whatever he wants as long as he uses a condom is extremely hypocritical.
Anea Bogue uses her experience in counseling to really pull together a plethora of topics in her talk show. No subject is seen as too taboo to talk about and in fact that is exactly what she is trying to demolish. Anea talks about anything and everything when it comes to the problems that women are faced with on a daily basis and in their lives. When asked what she wanted to talk about on her show the first word out of her mouth was an excited “WOW!” She went on to say that any woman watching the show would probably have at least three things on their mind that they would want to hear discussed and therefore the sky is the limit.
Hopefully this show is able to continue filming in Pittsburgh this fall. I can see that this talk show could touch the lives of so many women and maybe even change them for the better. Anea does not hold back while talking to guests and involving the audience at all. She tells things how they are and she really would like to make a change in the world.
She has her own website and twitter account that are easily accessible if you would like to know more about her and her views. I am sure that she will try to involve everything that she believes in into the filming on Anea.
