Beyond the Classroom

  • Lectures and Conferences: The Women’s Studies Program regularly sponsors lectures and conferences on topics related to new scholarship on women and gender.

  • Program Newsletter: The newsletter announces program activities and local programs of interest, recognizes research in women’s studies by members of the University, and provides information on scholarly resources and meetings.

  • Brown Bags: Throughout the academic year, faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates present their work-in-progress at these informal sessions.

  • Student Research Paper Prizes: With the co-sponsorship of many units within the University, the program awards annual student research paper prizes for the best undergraduate and graduate student research papers on women and gender.

  • Teaching Fellowships: The program offers two teaching fellowships each year to qualified FAS graduate students registered at the University of Pittsburgh, which allows them to gain experience teaching in an interdisciplinary context. Deadline for applications is February 25, 2006.

  • Visiting Scholars: The program sponsors a number of scholars every year who wish to be in residence at the University of Pittsburgh to pursue research interests relating to women’s studies or gender. This is a non-funded position but provides University affiliation and access to University resources. Learn more about our visiting scholars and procedures to become one.

  • Library Resources: The Women's Studies Library is located in the Women's Studies Suite (2208 Wesley W. Posvar Hall). Hillman Library has a first-rate collection of books, journals, and archival materials in Women’s Studies.
